Ukrainian Foreign Minister: Bought dozens of candles for the winter

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Alexei Kureba said his country was preparing for the “worst winter in its history” and that he himself had bought candles.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, he said: “I bought dozens of candles. My father bought a truckload of lumber.”

Cureba said: “We are preparing for the worst winter in our history.

He said Ukraine “will do everything in its power to protect its power stations.”

The Ukrainian president’s office has previously admitted that this winter will be much more difficult than the last one. In early October, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko advised everyone to buy generators for the winter. He said that since October 2022, 300 parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have been damaged, and the power sector did not have time to repair the power system before winter. He also complained that the West was too slow to provide repair equipment. According to the United Nations, Ukraine’s installed power generation capacity is less than half of what it was in February 2022.
